SOMATIC EXPERIENCING SE®
Somatic Experiencing® is a body-awareness approach to trauma, as developed by Dr. Peter Levine. Somatic Experiencing is "based upon the realization that the body (human beings) has an innate ability to overcome the effects of trauma" and "restore self-regulation, and returns a sense of aliveness, relaxation and wholeness to traumatized individuals who have had these precious gifts taken away."
In an SE® session, the client is assisted in developing the ability to track and feel their body sensations and track their body emotions and movements while gaining an increased capacity to “stay present”. .
Somatic Experiencing® can help ease a wide variety of challenges including depression, anxiety, and chronic pain and fatigue that come from the “stuck” fight/flight/freeze in the body.
We work with the fundamental physiology of your body and nervous system to allowing your body to tell and complete it’s instinctive movement and message. Somatic Experiencing® has been used with PTSD veterans, rape survivors, auto accident victims, post-surgical trauma patients, and chronic pain sufferers.

Somatic Integration
Somatic Integration is a modality that uses a body/mind or whole-body approach, as distinguished from a physiology-only perspective. Trauma and associated responses are explored and released using a variety of sometimes blended methods;
• Guided Imagery, or visualization to open and expand and balance the senses.
• Hands on bodywork with emphasis on body awareness through sensation and movement.
• Stillness and grounding of body energy.
A shift (release) can occur by working with both the physical and intertwined client psychological body. Session use the power of body sensation working in the safety of the here and now. The client’s awareness of their own experience of sensation, tension, relaxation, breath, response, and evoked thoughts are followed to a healthy release/balance. Session treatments vary to meet individual needs.
Children's Somatic Massage
A pediatric massage/touch is also very helpful for children who are in need of relearning what healthy supportive touch is all about, adding to their sense of self and somatic wholeness. A variety of techniques are drawn from to create a gentle, age and condition appropriate massage. The child is always made to feel comfortable and empowered to feel in control of the session. Dialogue with the child is maintained so that they feel safe and can release stress/anxiety.Parents are encouraged to be in the room while the massage is being performed to add to the comfort level of the child. Parental permission is required for children under 18 years of age.
